On 6th & 7th♍ September 2021, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) successfully accommodates M/v Cosco Shipping Aquarius – OOCL’s largest container vessel to ever berth in Vietnam. Cosco Shipping Aquarius 197,049 DWT equivalent to 20,119 TEUs is deployed by OOCL (Orient Overseas Container Line) shipping line, connecting Vietnam with North America. The vessel calls CMIT for handling nearly 2,500 containers equivalent to 4,500 TEUs of import, export and transshipment cargo.
“For shipping lines, such mega-vessels are less expensive on a unit-cost basis to build and have lower operating costs and a lighter environmental footprint; For port operators, accommodating many such mega-vessels shows not only terminals capabilities but also great collaboration with functional authority agencies; For Vietnam, welcoming such mega-vessels shows critical evaluation by shipping lines about potential robust growth of national foreign trade. CMIT is proud to be able to contribute in this development and connecting Vietnam with global trade much more efficiently♔”, said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky – General Director of CMIT.
